Rich's clinics, called "The Drummer's CRASH Course For Success" focuses on the musical, mental and business skills necessary for success in today's ultra competitive music scene. Rich plays along with tracks to several Top 10 Hits he has recorded and explains the evolution of his studio drum parts. Other topics include pursuing and keeping gigs, playing with clicks, studio percussion, chart reading, chart creation, The Nashville Number System, the use of colors on the drum set, how all styles are related, and many others. Largely overlooked concepts like 'attitude' and 'goal setting’ are also demystified. Concepts are presented in an informative, educational and entertaining style. Questions are encouraged throughout and help shape the direction of the presentation.
Rich's CRASH concept is an acronym for COMMITMENT-RELATIONSHIPS-ATTITUDE-SKILL(and) HUNGER which serves as the skeleton for Rich's clinic.
"My ultimate goal is to provide insight into the mystical idea of making a living exclusively from drumming and music. Far less than 1% of people who play musical instruments get to do it on the level that I do. I tell the students enlightening and entertaining stories about how I got from point A to point B. In other words, how I went from playing in the garage to playing in arenas and on hit records", says Rich.

Here’s what people are saying about Rich’s clinics:

"Thanks for an awesome clinic at Mountain Music! I
was thoroughly impressed and equally excited from the moment I spoke with you in
scheduling the clinic. Your professionalism, passion and talent really stood
out and captured the audiences’ attention from beginning to end. WHEN CAN WE DO
THIS AGAIN?" Brad Sanders. Mountain Music, Inc. Clemson SC.

“Rich's high energy, entertaining, and practical advise in his workshop is useful to all current and future music professionals in all genres. It was out pleasure to host Rich and are thankful to his sponsors for making his educational visit possible.” (Dr. Robert Rumbelow
Columbus State University

“THANK YOU for an outstanding clinic at
Northern Illinois University! Your presentation combining musical
preparation along with people skills, business follow-through and
building connections in the musical world will prove very valuable to
our students.
Universities do a great job at training the musician, but not a great
job at preparing these musicians for the real musical world. Thanks for
bridging the gap!"

Robert Chappell
Professor of Percussion
Northern Illinois University

"The format and pacing of Rich's clinic was perfect. It's always educational and enjoyable to hear such a wonderful drummer perform. Rich's time is impeccable. Given that drum set is not one of my strengths, Rich's clinic provided my students with valuable information and examples on styles, technical approaches, and equipment choices. It was very useful for them to hear that Rich practices what he preaches. When Rich played along with some recordings he's made it really emphasized the musical and stylistic points he was making; it was a very effective tool. I think another very valuable aspect of Rich's clinic was the information he shared on how he has approached his career, the dedication it takes, the ability to survive rejection, and the reality of making a living as a professional musician and what that means to your daily life schedule. Students often have a misguided notion of life on the road and in the recording studio. Rich's clinic provided them with practical realities while at the same time encouraging their dreams—it doesn't get better than that !”

Rich recorded all of the drums and percussion on Jason Aldean’s third record entitled Wide Open. The record will be released in April. The album was recorded in the exact same manner as Aldean’s previous two records…fast!!!! With an average of two takes per track and no studio editing or trickery, the sound is raw, live and real.
